I have a doggy problem. And it relates to toys.
We are an active rescue home. And I want the pups to have toys. But, the problem is my senior Rottie mix. She steals them all, and she can destry ANYTHING within a few minutes. I mean ANYTHING.
Just spent $35 on a supposedly "Indestructable Treat Ball" which it took Lola about 30 minutes to tear through.
HELP!
Have any of you found a toy that is actually FUN? And INDESTRUCTABLE??

Mon, December 8, 2008 - 6:01 AMYep. Lola has taken down a few Kongs in her lifetime.
I did find one kind of toy that works for our home. And I guess i have to go get more. It's a weird little ball with a bell in it. From "Bed, Bath and Beyond." I hope they still have 'em!

Re: Looking for an Indestructable Toy! Help!!
Mon, December 8, 2008 - 8:03 AMI almost hate to admit it because I've heard about how bad they can be, but the only toy I can give Sally that she doesn't kill in less than 30 minutes is a rope bone. She tosses it around and chews on it a while then tosses it around some more. When they get either too torn up or too nasty for me to want to pick up, they get thrown out and replaced.
She does have a few of the larger Cuz balls, their feet were chewed off - and disposed of - rather quickly, but the balls have withstood her abuse and most of them still squeak. It seems that if a toy is fuzzy, stuffed with something or makes a noise, she's not happy until all the stuffing is out and the squeaker is thoroughly dead. It only took a little training to get my family to stop buying her cute little toys - I just let her demolish them in front of everyone and the horror took care of it. -

Re: Looking for an Indestructable Toy! Help!!
Mon, December 8, 2008 - 8:16 AMI was using rope bones... but my vet advised against. May have to go back tot hem, tho... cuz the toy I was talking about at Bed, Bath and Beyond is no longer on their website. Aaaccckkkk!
I guess the thing with rope toys is to replace as soon as they start to fray?

Mon, December 8, 2008 - 11:19 AMSally'll usually pull hers in half and play with the separate knots. When they start losing strings, I take them away unless it's just peripheral damage. -

Re: Looking for an Indestructable Toy! Help!!
Mon, December 8, 2008 - 3:17 PMI have just purchased a few Nylabones. Very expensive... but, they do last. I used to buy them but had stopped cuz of the cost. And the fact that Lola steals them all and hides 'em from the pups.
Rope bones are pretty hard to tear apart. So I got a couple of those too. But... they have to be watched constantly. Cuz if they begin to fray they can be dangerous.
There was this one Jingle Ball toy I used to get at Bed, Bath and Beyond for $5. But... it appears to have gone off their website, so I am assuming it is out of production???
Anyways... I will keep experimenting. And let ya'll know what I find that works and doesn't.
I am now out another $100 at Petsmart. But... the $35 guaranteed toy is being returned Thursday. To help pay for the new collection.
My furniture and woodwork will surely appreciate being spared!

Re: Looking for an Indestructable Toy! Help!!
Fri, December 12, 2008 - 5:37 PMThere are a number of TUFF TOYS in a magazine called "Fetch Dog". www.fetchdog.com #T10001 beach shaped creatures, are great. especially the octopus., # T10063, T10002, T10002B are listed if you log on. The octopus (lg) was great for a Labradore who ripped everything up. I have some of these toys for my dogs that love to rip the stuffing and squeekers to shreds on regular toys. T10009, Neoprene Dream looks good, and the Nylon Tri-pulls. I have the Tough Toss Toys, bone and life ring, the starfish, and ruff rings. 800-595-0595 is the FetchDog phone #. Look at their products online, they are really tuff and I love them. They have such a lasting quality and the dogs can chew them and it takes a while to make a hole in one. Kongs are good, too. These are from the Holiday issue 2008, so they are current and available. Good luck
