My partner and I adopted a dog from Taiwan named Jia. Her Dogster webpage is here: www.dogster.com/dogs/965614
Anyway, we couldn't be happier with this dog. She is healthy, well behaved, can do tricks, and is sweet tempered. And she gets along with my cats very well. She's had all her shots, and she's such a sweet and loving pet. AHAN is an organization based in San Francisco called Asians for Humans, Animals, and Nature. They not only rescue dogs and cats, but they work to get legislation passed to protect and improve the lives of animals. I really think that they are doing wonderful work. The evening we picked Jia up at the airport, there were 17 other dogs coming in with her to their new "parents." www.ahan.org/
And yes, I know that there are dogs here who need adoption, too. But in the local shelters, there were just chihuahua mixes and pit bull mixes to choose from. My partner doesn't like pit bulls, and we wanted something bigger than a chihuahua. When we applied to adopt Jia, we thought she was in San Francisco, but we continued with the adoption even after we found she was in Taiwan. We couldn't resist that cute face and the fact that she was fostered with cats. Her foster mother even worked with her in English once we had committed to adopting her so that she would do her tricks for us since we don't speak Mandarin.
Our only problem is getting her to eat the dog food we bought her. Seems like Innova Evo just doesn't do it for her. Nor does she like your typical dog treats. Right now we're mixing the dry food with wet food to get her to eat it. Sometimes it works.

Re: We Would Like to Commend AHAN...
Wed, April 1, 2009 - 9:49 PMToo bad that your partner' doesn't like pitbulls.
They are amazing dogs.
Good luck with your new dog
Be careful of Innova Evo - it's really high protein & isn't always the best food...not all dogs need that high of a protein content. -

Sun, April 5, 2009 - 12:15 AMOur girl is about 16 months old, and runs with the greyhounds at the dog park. She's about half their size, but amazingly fast. Our vet says Evo is fine.
